North Shore Periodontics Gum Disease Treatment
Gum disease is a type of bacterial infection caused by a buildup of plaque on teeth. The bacteria damages the gingiva that keeps your teeth in place. There are two stages of gum disease. The first stage is called gingivitis and is characterised by bright red or purple inflamed gums that may bleed after brushing or flossing. Bad breath or halitosis may also be present. The second stage of gum diseases is called periodontitis. This advanced periodontal disease is characterised by tissue destruction that can lead to tooth loss.
